Becoming a ninja, or “Shinobi” in Japanese, is no easy task. These warriors must be trained in fighting skills and stealth, among other important skills. Luckily for us, our own Hand Ninja has developed a simple system for becoming a super warrior. Keep reading for all the details.

How to become a ninja using a cereal box

All three steps require concentration, commitment and dedication. Here they are:

1. Find a box of whole grain cereal that is the right size fit for your head (these details are very important because the whole grain will make you stronger, and a good fit will prevent many future headaches). Eat your cereal–not all at once, just a serving a day with raisins and milk, or whichever way you prefer– until the box is empty and ready for Step Two.
2. Use scissors, a knife, or samurai sword to make holes on one side of the box. These holes will be used for day and night vision during your missions.
3. With care and reverence, place the box over your head, bow to your opponent Japanese-style, and have fun! You are now a ninja (more or less).

The great Oscar Wilde once said: “One should either be a work of Art, or wear a work of Art.” That is certainly true this time of the year when gardens and parks are looking their best. In many cultures and folk tales owls are symbols of wisdom, and while at school, our Hand Owl definitely lived up to these expectations. Rocking big round glasses, he both looked and played the part of class genius.

As a result of his passion for Owlgebra, his favorite subject, he learned to devise brilliant calculations for finding the most direct route to any destination he chooses, even through the darkest of nights. In reality, though, he often assumes the role of absent-minded mathematician and takes the roundabout route instead. . .

We visited this playground, which was built on the site of an old firehouse from 1886. To commemorate its past life, one part of the playground equipment is a fire truck, complete with water pump and a driver’s seat. While it has seen better days, it continues to inspire little ones and not-so-little ones in their creative play. Accompanying the truck are two other toys, one of them a horse. We liked how they look together and took this photo to show you. We hope you like it too.
